[ available for purchase at the Harbor Springs shop only ]
Boz Beach Beauties is a stunning collection of one-of-a-kind bracelets and necklaces intermixing gorgeous beach stones and handicraft. Each piece is an assemblage of authentic beach stones collected on the shores of northern Michigan, signature sterling charms, and leather or waxed cotton macramé. The entire collection is hand-made on-site by Boz and her associates. A multitude of Michigan beach stones are used in the collection, including the much sought after Petoskey Stone, Charlevoix Stone, granite, bluestone, mixed aggregate, fossil, colorful slag glass and many other varieties. Each stone is selected for its pattern, color and unique “almost human” shape. “I’m loving this collection unique to northern Michigan - and I’m happy to share the delight of a beautiful beach stone with my customers!” says Boz.
Authentic Petoskey Stones
This highly revered stone is actually a colony coral fossil. It was formed about 350 million years ago in the Devonian period, when land plants and primitive amphibians were just coming to life. During this period, Michigan was located near the equator and was covered by a shallow warm sea – ideal for the development of a large coral reef. As well as corals, the reef would have been home to clams, crinoids, trilobites and cephalopods. Fossil evidence of these creatures can be found in Michigan, but the most prized is the Petoskey stone. The stone’s popular status has earned it a special distinction, the Michigan State Stone! Characteristic to the Petoskey stone is its intricate honeycomb pattern. Each hexagonal cell is unique as is each collective colony of cells. The never ending variety of configurations makes each stone distinctive. The stones may vary in color due to the different sediments which became embedded in the coral.
